Argentine authorities have arrested a 27-year-old woman who was on the run for smuggling cocaine hidden in children's books. The operation to apprehend the fugitive took place in the province of Salta, after which she was transferred to Buenos Aires by air. The case, named 'White Books,' was initiated in 2022 when a shipment of copies of 'The Jungle Book' was found to have a false bottom containing cocaine hydrochloride. It was determined that there were nearly three kilograms of drug hidden in each book, prepared for shipment abroad. Upon learning of the investigation, the woman went into hiding. In March 2025, through investigative tasks carried out by the Division of Crimes against Health and Personal Security of the Buenos Aires Police, it was established that the accused was in the province of Salta, where an undercover surveillance operation was set up. The operation was carried out on March 17, during which police officers identified her in a public place and proceeded to arrest her at the intersection of Paraguay and Jacarandá streets. 'After her capture, the woman was lodged in a police facility in Salta and subsequently transferred by air to the City of Buenos Aires,' the statement highlights. The case involves the National Prosecutor's Office for Economic Crimes No. 4, led by Claudio Navas Rial, and the National Court for Economic Crimes No. 5, presided over by Patricio Pinto.
